After watching Letters to Juliet the other night, we decided to watch another Amanda Seyfried movie again last night. Although I've watched Amanda in Mean Girls, I wasn't a fan. That is until I watched her in Mamma Mia and realized that she doesn't only know how to act but she's a great singer too. Anyway, the movie last night was was a double treat for me because her partner in the movie was Channing Tatum!

  

I've been following Channing Matthew Tatum's career ever since I watched him in Coach Carter.☺ Anyway, I'm sure some of you already know what this film is about. It's based on a book written by no less than Nicholas Spark so you can only imagine that the film is as good as The Notebook. I've noticed, though, that the movie ended differently from the book version. At any rate, I can say that I loved the movie's ending better.☺

Special Forces Army Sergeant John Tyree (Channing Tatum) is home on a two-week leave from Germany. He meets Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried) after he dives into the ocean to retrieve Savannah's purse that had fallen off the pier. John is smitten by Savannah and falls in love at first sight. Savannah is a college student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is on spring break and is helping build a house for Habitat for Humanity. John joins in with Savannah to help build the house. Along the way a budding romance occurs, and Savannah falls deeply in love with John. As she is about to go back to college, she promises to write John overseas during the next 12-months until he returns to her after completing his enlistment. Their love is put to the test when John reenlists after the 9/11 attack.

I think this movie epitomizes how powerful TRUE LOVE can be - not even distance nor betrayal can change how one feels towards another. This movie certainly answers the question, "What does it mean to truly love another?"☺♥

Last night was a movie night and since we've exhausted all the horror and action/adventure films we have on stock, we decided to watch Letters to Juliet.

The movie stars Amanda Seyfried and since I've been a fan ever since I watched her in Mamma Mia, I just had to watch this movie of hers.

The movie is about a young American named Sophie who travels to the city of Verona. As we all know, Verona is the home of star-crossed lover Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague. There's this one house there in Verona (yes, one with a balcony), supposedly "Juliet's house", where people troop to everyday and there they leave letters addressed to Juliet; letters seeking Juliet's advice about love. Intrigued with the concept, Sophie follows the woman who came to pick up all the letters and Sophie learned that there is a group of volunteers called "Secretaries of Juliet" who respond to the letters. On Sophie's second day "at work", she discovers a later dated 1951 in one of the crags in Juliet's house. She answered the letter and unbeknown to her, she inspired the author of the letter to travel from London all the way to Italy in search of her long-lost love. The unexpected meeting between Sophie and the letter's author Claire, played by veteran actress Vanessa Redgrave, set off a chain of events that brought love into both of their lives in ways they never could have imagined.

It was a wonderful film and towards the end of the film, I found myself with tears in my eyes. Yes, I had to sleep with puffy eyes!☺ But it was all worth it. Oh, and I loved the soundtrack of the film, too. The soundtrack included Taylor Swift's Love Story.♥ If you haven't seen the movie yet and you're looking for a feel-good love story, I highly recommend this one.☺ 

I was finally able to watch the movie Killers the other night and I must say I really enjoyed the film. It stars Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. Ashton is an assassin working for the CIA but he keeps this fact secret from Katherine whom he met while the latter was on vacation in the French Riviera with her parents. They fell instantly in love and decide to get married and they lead an almost perfect married life until Ashton's 30th birthday. That's when Ashton's well-kept secret came out in the open and they learned that someone wanted Ashton killed. They also learned that the killer or killers could be anyone among the people they interact with on a daily basis including friends, family and workmates.

There were several scenes where Ashton was shirtless and I had no idea he had such a terrific body! *drooling* Demi Moore is one lucky cougar. Katherine Heigl was her usual drop-dead gorgeous self. I really liked her curly frock. It suit her fine.

I don't know if I have mentioned it anywhere in this blog already. If I haven't yet, I just want to let you all know that I am a huge Chris Evans fan. I first saw him in the movie Cellular where he starred with Kim Basinger. After that, I've been following his movie career.

That's him with and without his shirt on. So I guess you now know why I drool over him. LOL! He also played Torch in the Fantastic Four series and Nick Grant in the 2009 movie Push alongside Dakota Fanning. He's got a number of movies up his sleeves but the most I'm excited about are his upcoming projects. He's slated to play Steve Rogers aka Captain America and he's going to play the role in both installments (this early, they have announced a sequel to the one that's on pre-production)! Gosh, I can't contain my excitement!

Just a few nights ago, I watched him on The Losers. 

He played a tech-savvy member of a CIA black opps team who were doubled crossed and presumed dead. He and his group then made plans to even the score after they were joined by a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

It was a good film. Action-packed with some comedy here and there. I highly recommend it although whether or not you guys would like it remains to be seen.☺

I recently watched Jennifer Lopez’s latest movie, The Back-Up Plan, and I can definitely say it’s such a great, feel-good movie. Have you seen it yet? If not, you can watch The Back-Up Plan online for free without downloading. Sounds great, right?

The movie is about Zoe, an accomplished female who has a bit of a problem. She always has a hard time letting anyone into her life whenever she feels that they are getting too close for comfort. The problem is, she desperately wants to have a baby but without anyone in her life, how was that possible? So she opted to have herself artificially inseminated. The problem begins when she meets Stan (played by Alex O’Loughlin) – a guy who instantly connects with her. Can she finally let him into her life? How would she tell him that she’s expecting a baby? Will he still stay even after he learns that she’s expecting? Sounds interesting so far? Go watch The Back-Up Plan now!

When I was a kid, I had a pet dog which my mom named Koochie. She was a mixed breed of Poodle and Japanese Spitz and she was adorable. I was responsible for her so I bathed and fed her. Unfortunately, she got ill and died. Then my dad bought me a Labrador and I named him Pepper. Sadly, he died due to an accident. Since then, I never got myself to take care of a pet dog again. I guess losing them was somewhat traumatic for me.

But what if it was the pet dog who suffers from the loss of his or her master? That's what the film I watched last night was all about.

Hachiko is a 2009 American adaptation of a Japanese tale. It's about a dog who was so loyal to his master. In the film, Richard Gere plays a professor, Parker Wilson, who travels to and from work everyday by train. One night while he was leaving the train station, a dog came up to him and since the dog looked lost, he decided to take it home with him. Parker instantly fell in love with the dog but his wife was against them taking in a stray so they made fliers so that anyone who becomes interested with the dog might contact them. However, Parker's wife saw how much happier her husband became when Hachiko entered their lives so she let him keep the dog.

As Hachiko was growing, he became so attached to his master that everyday, he'd see his master off to work. He'd walk with his master to the train station and wait until he goes in to board the train, leave for home and then come back every afternoon, around 5 o'clock, just in time to greet his master as he comes in after work. That was Hachiko's daily routine. 

Sadly, his master died while at work. Of course, Hachiko wasn't really aware of it and because he was so loyal to his master, he still went back to the train station to await his master's return but he never came back. Hachiko faithfully came back to the train station the next day, still waiting for his master, and every day after that for the next 9 years. Most of the people working in or near the train station was amazed at how faithful he was. Can you imagine the dog's loyalty to his master? 

After the film, a short paragraph came up the screen saying that the film was based on the story of a Japanese professor at Tokyo University who found Hachiko in 1923. The professor passed away in 1925 and everyday for the next 9 years, Hachiko waited on his usual spot just outside the train station. The real Hachiko died in 1935 and today, a bronze statue of Hachiko sits in his waiting spot outside the Shibuya station in Japan as a permanent reminder of his devotion and love.

I had tears in my eyes as the climax of the film was unraveling. It was really moving and touching, well at least IMO. If you're a pet lover, you might like or love the film.☺

I watched a 2009 film of Uma Thurman the other night entitled Motherhood. I don't know if you guys have seen it already. Anyway, I liked the film although I later found out that it was a flop. In fact, in a review he made for the film, Philip French described it as a trite and tiresome movie. Nevertheless, I liked it. I guess I did so because I could somehow relate to Uma's character, Eliza Welsh.

Eliza is a mother of 2 kids and she juggles her time between being a mother, a wife, a homemaker and a blogger. Writing is her passion and in fact she went to an Ivy-league school where she practiced her writing skills and even became an apprentice. She knows she would've made it big if she hadn't gotten married and started having children. She can't work outside the home so she tries to make up for this and still give in to her passion by blogging. She's actually known to the blogging world as a "mom-whiner" because she constantly whined about her life. You can see through her posts that she was trying to work on 'motherhood' but at the same time, she wants the world to know that she has dreams and she wants to realize these dreams.

The movie happened all in one day and seeing how Eliza tries to manage her day was quite tiring. She actually has a list of to-dos and in her list, you'll see "blog?" fitted in her itinerary a couple of times. It was screaming time management and multi-tasking. She had to wake up early, prepare breakfast for her husband and kids, take the eldest to school, shop, blog, take the youngest to the park, shop, blog, plan and prepare for her eldest's 6th birthday...the list goes on.

I said at the outset that I can somehow relate to Uma's character. I AM NOT A MOM YET. But I've taken care of 2 nieces and am taking care of a nephew and I know that it's not an easy task. I work from home while taking care of my nephew and trying to squeeze in blogging bit by bit. However, watching the film made me all the more appreciate the mommy bloggers I've met during the whole year that I've been actively blogging. I salute all of you! Nobody else can do what you all are capable of doing and to think that you do what you do because you love doing them. God bless all mothers!☺

Last Monday evening all four of us (myself, my brother, my SIL and their 3-year old son) watched Daybreakers on DVD. It was a suspense-thriller starring Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill. It was a vampire movie so I was hooked from the get-go.

The premise was something foreign, to me at least. It was set in the year 2019 and during that time about 90% of the earth's population have already been turned into vampires and since the last remaining humans were diminishing fast, the vampires are about to face their biggest fear: BLOOD SHORTAGE. So they tried "farming" the humans that they already have in their possession while a vampire-cum-hematologist, portrayed by Ethan Hawke, was trying to come up with an able substitute for blood to meet the vampires' needs. Otherwise, if the vampires suffer from blood deprivation, they will evolve into wild, vicious creatures that would attack anyone and anything, fellow vampires included, in order to survive.

Incidentally, Ethan Hawke's character is sympathetic to humans since he was turned into a vampire against his will that's why he's trying to conjure a plan to find a blood substitute to alleviate the chances of humans falling prey to vampires. However, in Ethan's quest to find the perfect blood substitute, he stumbles upon something which was better than any blood substitute he can create - a chance to become HUMAN again.

The unusual plot got me focused on the story. Plus, I love Ethan Hawke so...and it was funny because even my 3-year old nephew was watching and he obviously could folow the story because he was asking questions. We can't force him to sleep because he loves watching scary movies.☺

I'm not sure if it's already been shown here in the Philippines. I'm not even sure if others who saw the film liked it, too. But I did that's why I thought of sharing it with the readers of this blog.☺
